Excessive Thoughts - Overthinking - Spaced Out - Anxiety - Being Ungrounded - Root Chakra

“No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell.” ― C.G. Jung

When a person is ungrounded in their own bodies it's like living with no foundations, a tree without roots, like being in the attic of a house and neglecting the very bottom floors you live in... If you look around many people are in their heads, often thinking about what will happen or what has happened - past or future thoughts. Most often negative self-talk which has a disabling effect on us and those around us. The saddest part is that this kind of behaviour is encouraged in society (intellect leads to £$). Maybe that's why you see so many people working on their upper bodies in the gym and neglecting their very own roots (think Jersey Shore).

Energy becomes un-balanced in the body so rises into the head area and increases our thoughts/spiritual experiences. It's like being cut in half and cut off from our emotions and feelings around the stomach area. Furthermore, many people are experiencing spiritual breakdowns due to too much energy being around the head area and neglecting their roots (spiritual bypassing). These are the dangers of mediation and stupid apps like headspace, which only further accelerates energy upwards rather than energy being balanced around the entire body.

Grounding is simply acknowledging and consciously bringing our energy down by focusing on our lower body, and being aware of our connection to earth. Another term people use is earthing. When you look at animals in nature they are grounded, present in their bodies without a single thought as to the future or past. This is natural for us but we have learnt to use thinking as a way to avoid and escape our own feeling and those around us.

I struggle to visualise roots growing out of my feet and bottom of the spine, reaching to the core of the earth. I like to think of my body increasing in weight, or as if someone is pushing me from above down and into the ground. Please try and visualise different ways, as long as you can start becoming aware of your legs and the feeling of heaviness in your body. Much of the time grounding is difficult and we need to be doing healing work (talk therapy, group therapy, bod focused therapy) in order to release energy blocks in and around the middle of the body.
